The Story Behind the Kitchen

I’m not the best cook, but I try. 😂
I do love to bake, though! ❤️

When I was growing up, I was fortunate enough to have my grandparents living right next door.

My mom was a single mother who worked multiple jobs, so my grandmother would make dinner so there was always a nice meal waiting when my mom got home from work and when my brother and I came home from school.

Some of my favorite memories from those years aren’t really about what was being served for dinner. They’re about sitting around the table together, talking about our day, laughing and simply spending time together as one big family.

When I had children of my own, that was a tradition I wanted to carry with me.

Dinner became our time to reconnect. It was where I heard about the school day, new friends and all the little pieces of their everyday lives that I might otherwise have missed.

Now that my children are grown, I don’t cook big family meals nearly as often unless we’re celebrating a holiday or birthday. But those years taught me something that still influences the way I think about my kitchen today.

The kitchen should make it easier to spend time with the people in your home--not keep you away from them. ❤️

That’s one reason the organization and functionality of this room matter so much to me. When everything has a place and the kitchen works the way I need it to, I can spend less time searching, shuffling and fussing—and more time actually enjoying the people who are here.

I’m still working on those cooking skills. 😂

But come holiday baking season?

This kitchen gets WORKED. 🍪😂❤️
