The Story Behind the Guest Suite

Sometimes a room starts with a paint color.

Sometimes it starts with a piece of furniture.

This one started with elephants. ❤️

Years before I ever owned this home, I bought an elephant canvas for my oldest son’s bedroom when he was a teenager.

Eventually, his style changed, as teenage boys’ rooms tend to do. 😂

But for some reason, I could never bring myself to get rid of that picture.

So I kept it.

It moved with me, even though I didn’t really have a plan for it.

And then one day, when I started thinking about what I wanted my guest bedroom to become, I looked at those elephants and realized—

There it was.

Instead of choosing a room and then searching for artwork to match it, I did the exact opposite.

I let the artwork design the room.

I pulled the soft, earthy colors from the elephants and the landscape and used them as my guide for the wall color, bedding, pillows, curtains, and accessories.

Little by little, a room began forming around a piece of artwork I’d owned for years.

And I think that’s part of why this room feels so much like home to me.

Not everything in our homes need to be purchased specifically for the space where it eventually ends up.

Sometimes the things we’ve carried with us simply haven’t found their place yet.

And sometimes something that has finished one chapter of its life can become the beginning of another. ❤️

The Guest Bathroom came together with that same philosophy.

There wasn’t anything fundamentally wrong with it, so I didn’t replace things simply for the sake of replacing them. I worked with what was already there and added color, texture, greenery, and personality until it felt connected to the bedroom beside it.

Together, the two rooms became a Guest Suite that feels warm, comfortable, and welcoming—without either one needing to start from scratch.

And that elephant canvas?

After all these years, I think it finally found the room it was meant for.

Sometimes the best starting point for a room isn’t something new.

It’s something you already own and still love. ❤️

Transformed with Love.
