THE STORY BEHIND THE GUEST BEDROOM
The Guest Bedroom started with something I already loved—the elephants.
Years ago, I bought the canvas for my son’s bedroom. His style eventually changed, but I could never bring myself to let the artwork go. So it moved with me, waiting for a place of its own.
When it was time to design the Guest Bedroom, I realized it had finally found that place.
Instead of choosing a room and searching for artwork to match, I let the artwork lead the way. Its soft, earthy colors inspired the warm walls, neutral bedding, natural textures and comfortable layers throughout the space.
What began with an old favorite became a room designed to make someone else feel at home.

Years ago, when my kids were little, I would pick up a gallon of paint for $20-$30 and happily change a room whenever the mood struck. This time, I approached it differently.
I knew I wanted a color and finish I could live with for years, so this was one place I chose to spend a little more for quality and longevity. Gray Matters was regularly $101.49 per gallon, but I waited for a sale and purchased it for about $60 per gallon.
Creating a home on a budget doesn’t always mean choosing the least expensive option. Sometimes it means knowing where to save, where to splurge, and when to wait for a sale.
