Sometimes an entire room begins with one thing you love. ❤️
For my master bedroom, it was the wallpaper.
I found it before I had figured out most of the other details in the room, and once I saw it, I knew.
That was my starting point.
It had the blues, warm neutrals, and earthy tones I wanted, along with enough texture and movement to make the room interesting without making it feel busy.
Instead of trying to make every wall a statement, I let that one wall do the talking.
Then I started pulling inspiration from it.
The blue for the surrounding walls. The warmth of the wood furniture. The neutral bedding. The layer of blue and tan. The rug. The curtains.
Suddenly, I wasn’t trying to choose a room full of individual things that matched.
I had a roadmap.
But creating this room wasn’t only about how I wanted it to look. I also thought about how I wanted to live in it.
The curtains are probably one of my favorite examples.
Throughout the years, I’d read that hanging curtains higher can make a room feel taller. So when I bought my house and discovered I had beautiful 9 1/2-foot ceilings, I knew I wanted to take advantage of that height.
The curtains were going from ceiling to floor.
There was just one practical problem.
I love natural sunlight, so I knew I’d be opening and closing those very tall curtains every single day.
And I had absolutely no intention of regularly climbing onto a stepladder to fix curtains that wouldn’t slide properly! 😂
That’s when years of traveling gave me an idea.
I’ve always loved how effortlessly hotel curtains glide open and closed. So I started searching for a way to recreate that same convenience at home and discovered ceiling mounted curtain tracks.
They gave me exactly what I wanted—the dramatic floor-to-ceiling look that emphasizes the height of the room, along with curtains that move easily enough to actually use every day.
And I think that little decision says a lot about how I approach my home.
Beautiful design should make living in a room easier, not harder.
As the bedroom came together, I carried that same thought into the adjoining Master Bath.
I didn’t want the bathroom to duplicate the bedroom. I simply wanted the two spaces to feel as though they belonged together.
So the warm neutrals and navy accents continued through the doorway, giving the bathroom its own personality while maintaining the calm feeling I had created in the bedroom.
Piece by piece, what started with one wallpaper became an entire Master Suite.
Not because everything matched.
Not because everything was expensive.
And certainly not because I had every detail figured out from the beginning.
I simply started with something I loved and let it give me direction.
And somewhere along the way, these two rooms became more than spaces I had decorated.
They became the place where I begin and end nearly every day.
Calm. Warm. Comfortable.
My sanctuary. ❤️
Sometimes you don’t need a complete vision before you begin.
Start with the thing you love.
The rest of the story can unfold from there.
Transformed with Love.
