THE STORY BEHIND THE OFFICE

When I first saw this extra room—a space typically

used as a sitting room in many homes—I knew

immediately it would become my office.

I have always loved the character and history of old

vintage maps, and from the very beginning, I could

picture one covering the wall. That vision eventually

turned into a hunt for the perfect vintage map

wallpaper and became the starting point for the

entire room.

But more than anything, I didn’t want my office to

feel like a workspace. I wanted it to be a place to

dream, plan, create, and imagine what might come

next. So I began incorporating pieces of my travels

throughout the room, surrounding myself with

reminders of places I’ve been and inspiration for

adventures still ahead.

Today, it’s much more than an office.

It’s a room where ideas find room to grow…Where ideas become something more.

The House of Valenova idea began right here—in a room created for dreaming.

HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT

Beautiful spaces still have to work for real life.

One of the most functional pieces in my office is

hiding a little secret—Chloe’s litter box! I wanted her

space to be easily accessible without taking away

from the look and feel of the room, so I chose a

cabinet that blends right in with the rest of the

furniture.

Closed, you’d never know what’s inside. And that’s

exactly the point.

WHERE I CHOSE TO SPLURGE

Sherwin-Williams—Clary Sage

Years ago, when my kids were little, I would pick up a gallon of paint for $20-$30 and happily change a room whenever the mood struck. This time, I approached it differently.

I knew I wanted a color and finish I could live with for years, so this was one place I chose to spend a little more for quality and longevity. Clary Sage was regularly $101.49 per gallon, but I waited for a sale and purchased it for about $60 per gallon.

Creating a home on a budget doesn’t always mean choosing the least expensive option. Sometimes it means knowing where to save, where to splurge, and when to wait for a sale.

The Rug - $304.99

The rug was another place I chose to spend a little more. Because it anchors the entire office and ties the room together, I wanted something I truly loved rather than choosing something simply because it cost less.

I found this rug shortly after I started painting the office and immediately knew it was the one. The colors were perfect for the room I was creating—but it kept selling out on Wayfair.

I searched everywhere for something similar, but nothing felt quite right. Rather than settling just to finish the room, I completed everything else, moved on to other projects in the house, and saved for the rug I really wanted.

It became the very last piece I added to the office—and it was worth the wait.

Affordable doesn’t mean settling. Sometimes it means waiting.

The piece that inspired the entire office. This vintage-style mural was definitely a splurge, but it created exactly the feeling I envisioned for the room. I paid $416.69 after taking advantage of a 15% discount—because even a splurge deserves a promo code. 😉

I’ll admit, getting that first panel perfectly positioned tested every ounce of my patience. At one point, I was seriously considering finding a professional to finish the job. But, I kept going, figured it out panel by panel, and eventually stepped back to see the wall I had envisioned from the very beginning.

Was there some colorful language involved? Perhaps. 😂 Was it worth it? Absolutely!

Would I choose peel & stick next time? Also yes. 🤣
