THE LAUNDRY ROOM
Even the practical spaces can be beautiful.
A hardworking little room transformed with
organization and thoughtful details that make
everyday chores feel just a bit nicer.
THE STORY BEHIND THE LAUNDRY ROOM
I’ve always loved doing laundry. There’s something about giving my family fresh, clean clothes that makes my heart happy.
After having laundry spaces that were dark or purely functional, I wanted this little room to feel different—bright, cheerful, beautiful and practical.
Peel-and-stick flooring and an accent wall completely changed the look, while painted cabinetry, a wooden folding surface and smart storage made every inch work harder.
Sometimes caring for a home is simply another way
of caring for the people in it.
BEFORE & AFTER
Sometimes the biggest transformations begin with
the simplest changes.

PIECES OF THE PAST
Some things deserve a place where their story can be seen.
My favorite detail is above the cabinets. I’ve had those antique irons since I was a
teenager, when they were kept in a hope chest at my grandmother’s house. After
spending many years packed away, I finally built the shelf above the cabinets specifically
to give them a place to be displayed.
Now a room devoted to one of my favorite ways of caring for my family also holds a
little piece of my own history.

WHERE I CHOSE TO SPLURGE
Sherwin-Williams—Accessible Beige
Years ago, when my kids were little, I would pick up a gallon of paint for $20-$30 and happily change a room whenever the mood struck. This time, I approached it differently.
I knew I wanted a color and finish I could live with for years, so this was one place I chose to spend a little more for quality and longevity. Accessible Beige was regularly $101.49 per gallon, but I waited for a sale and purchased it for about $60 per gallon.
Creating a home on a budget doesn’t always mean choosing the least expensive option. Sometimes it means knowing where to save, where to splurge, and when to wait for a sale.
